French-Swiss in origin, is hard to come by. The artist emigrated to the United States in the late 1840s and was active in New York City in 1858-1869. It is thought that he may actually have painted the pictures of artist Severin Roesen, or been otherwise associated with that artist, because when Roesen leaves New York for Pennsylvania, LaCroix's name surfaces.
