"아름다움이란 마음의 상처 이외의 그 어디에서도 연유하지 않는다." (자코메티의 아틀리에 중에서)
처음 열 다섯 살 현지를 촬영 했을 때, 그녀는 자유연기를 해보겠다고 말했다. 우리는 빈 터의 풀밭을 무대로 내가 앉은 벤치를 객석으로 무수히 많은 관객들이 보고 있다고 상상하였다. 그 후 배우들을 만날 때면 짧은 자유연기를 부탁드렸고, 배우들은 춤을 추거나 노래를 하고, 짧은 연기를 보여주었다. 낙엽이 지는 가을, 해질 무렵 빈 터에는 낭만이 흐른다. 배우들은 순간의 표정과 몸짓으로 무언의 느낌을 전달한다. 사진에 담을 수 있는 것 또한 그것 뿐이다. 대형 카메라로 촬영을 진행한 까닭에 배우들은 멈춰진 동작과 표정으로 3분여의시간 동안 가만히 있어야했다. 그 때 그 모습은 살아있는 조각으로 다가왔다.


아내의 옷
추운 겨울이 다가오면, 지난 해 겨울 하늘 나라로 먼저 떠난 아내 생각이 많이 난다. 그녀가 떠난 후 집을 비우고 이사를 가려니 큰 방 옷장에 걸려있는 아내의 옷들이 마음에 걸렸다. 사자의 옷을 입으려는 사람은 없기에 버려야 한다는 생각에 마음이 무거웠다. 그래서 그 옷들을 빈 터에 가져가 사진에 담았다. 그것으로 이 번 전시 작업을 마무리 하였다. 소포클레스 비극 콜로누스의 오이디푸스에서 눈먼 오이디푸스가 딸에 손에 의지해 마지막으로 다 달은 곳은 어느 한적한 숲 이였다. 그 곳에서 그는 죽어 빛이 되었다. 빈 터의 배우들 ■ 전종대


"Beauty originates from a wounded heart, not anywhere else." (From Giacometti's Atelier) When I photographed 15-year-old Hyeon-ji for the first time, she said she wanted to do free acting. We imagined that the grass in the empty lot is the stage and the bench I was sitting on, the seat with a huge audience that came to see her. Later, whenever I worked with actors, I asked them to do a little free acting, and they either danced, sang, or showed a little acting. The romantic air fills the empty lot near dusk in the late fall. Actors convey emotions through expressions on the face and the body silently and instantly. Those are the only things that I can capture in photographs. Actors had to stand still for about three minutes in the same posture and with the same expression because we used the large format camera. They gave me the impression of living sculptures at the time.

Wife's Dress
When the cold winter comes, I think of my wife more often. She passed away last winter. After her passing, I decided to empty the place and move out, but my wife's dresses, hanging inside the closet in the main room, weighed on my mind. My heart was heavy, thinking that I had to throw them all out because no one would wear the dead person's dress. I took them to the empty lot and captured them in photographs. That finalized this exhibition. In Oedipus at Colonus, the tragedy by Sophocles, Oedipus, blind and led by his daughter's hand, reaches a quiet forest. He died there and became the light.
