두산갤러리 뉴욕에서는 박미나의 개인전 ‘Gray Sky’를 개최한다. 이번 전시에는 아나그램(Anagram)과 딩벳(Dingbat)을 이용한 1점의 회화와 73점의 드로잉이 선보일 예정이다.
박미나의 작품에서 보여지는‘아나그램’이란 철자의 위치를 바꾸어서 새로운 단어를 만드는 것을 말하며,‘딩벳’이란 컴퓨터에서 문자와 함께 사용되는 특수한 구호나 심벌과 같은 이미지 폰트들을 일컫는 말이다. 작가는 이를 이용하여 마치 일상적인 말이나 기호인 듯 보이지만 사실은 아무런 의미도 갖지않는 색채와 형태로서의 이미지를 보여줌으로써, 기존의 언어체계가 가지는 소통 방식의 한계를 벗어남과 동시에 복잡하고 어렵게만 느껴지는 현대미술을 보다 간편하게 정의하고자 한다.
또한 이번 전시에서 선보일 70여 점의 신작 드로잉들은 모두 각기 다른 종류의 연필들로 그려진 작품들로, 공통적인 분모는 회색과 해로 표현되는데, 회색은 지금까지의 작업에서 볼 수 없었던 색으로 작가의 새로운 시도이기도 하다. 그녀의 드로잉에서 색은 단순한 색(color)이 아닌 색이 칠해진(colored) 물성의 성격을 띠고 있다. 제목이 갖는 의미와 그림 자체의 의미는 물리적으로 연결이 되고 이것은 내러티브가 없는 빈 공간이 될 수 있음과 동시에 새로운 이미지로 재탄생하며 결국은 그 안에 삼차원적 생동감이 존재하게 된다.

박미나는 미국 로드 아일랜드 미술대학교 회화과를 졸업하고, 헌터 대학교 대학원 회화과를 마쳤다. 갤러리 엠(2011, 서울, 한국), 국제갤러리(2010, 서울, 한국), 프로젝트 스페이스 사루비아(2007, 서울, 한국) 등에서 개인전을 가졌고, 광주 디자인 비엔날레(2011, 광주, 한국), 플라토(2011, 서울, 한국), 아트스페이스 풀(2010~11, 서울, 한국), 경기도미술관(2010, 안산, 한국), 마루가메 이노쿠마 겐이치로 현대미술관(2009, 가가와, 일본), 헤더 현대미술관(2009, 텔아비브, 이스라엘), 아뜰리에 에르메스(2009, 서울, 한국), 백남준 미술관(2008~9, 용인, 한국)등 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. ■ 두산갤러리

DOOSAN Gallery New York is pleased to present『Gray Sky』by MeeNa Park. The exhibition features a painting and numerous drawings among her latest works.Park sees the world as a simple color palettes and elements of anagram and dingbat. Anagram is a type of literary technique, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce a new phrase. Dingbat is a character used in computer industry, which is designated for symbolism. In Park's works, the anagram and dingbat appear as if they are meaningful symbol or terminology, however, relevance between the image and title is blurred. The title is created by insignificant letters, and it is converted to dingbats on the painting. By using anagram, title has imbued its significance and dingbats itself creates an image.
This exhibition is accompanied by more than ninety-pencil-drawings of sun using different types of graphite on children's coloring pages. In her drawings, it is worth taking note of the color which has a characteristic of its own 'colored' object, rather than 'color' as visual perception. Park has worked with other color scheme in the past, however, this is her first time of using gray from her color-palettes. Throughout this over all process, Park describes complexity of the contemporary art, furthermore, prevails a limitation of the existing communication system and linguistic barriers. ■ DOOSAN Gallery
